Van Dyke Brown prints were the focus of the class with many learning the nuances of the process from sensitizing the paper to evaluating the exposure time. Today it was on to Van Dyke Brown prints and BVD's (that stands for blue van dykes). Everyone eagerly made prints anticipating how their photographs would look in this smooth brown vintage process. Many printed Blue Van Dykes - Van Dyke Brown on top of a too dark Cyanotype. A way to resurrect a print and give it a new interpretation!

Washing Prints

It was a Cyanotype day! Students made enlarged digital negatives and then out into the sun to expose their prints... until it rained then inside to the UV light for more printing... then back outside when the rain stopped - a little precipitation can not hold us back.

Today was the first class meeting for Alternative Photographic Processes at Tunxis Community College.

Much ground was covered today, an introduction to the processes and their history, an intro on printing digital negatives and the high point of the class: creating a 9' x 9' cyanotype mural. See photos and videos below...
