Class # 12

John Parisi - Van Dyke Brown

We had the first successful tintypes created with a pinhole camera today, way to go Laura! And Rob has made many new Albumen prints. The class continues to move along printing new images and improving alt process techniques as we head into our final week of class.

Class # 11

Laura Focarile - 2 layer gum bichromate

We are in a printing frenzy! Some exciting print "triumphs" are happening as beautiful final prints are being made. Many are putting third and fourth layers on gum bichromate prints to create lovely color combinations. And Rob made his first successful Albumen print... hooray!

Class #10

Jen Provost - Van Dyke Brown

As we enter the final 2 weeks of class there is much growth in printing technique and a continual flow of printing during class time. Its as if people just can't get enough of Alt Processes! I'm especially impressed with the class' patience and dedication to the gum bichromate process - its not easy but everyone is jumping into the process with enthusiasm and anticipation for what the final print will look like!

Here is a small selection of prints created on Monday...

Class #9

Pinhole Cameras
Another rainy day... a good day to construct pinhole cameras for making tintypes! And we managed to have a tintype demo rain and all!

There was plenty of time to print Van Dyke Browns, Gum Bichromates, Cyanotypes and BVDs, too...

Class # 8

Despite the lack of sun, which is ideal for exposing Alt Process prints, there's still lots of print production! Today began the journey into Gum Bichromate printing and the ultimate exercise in patience as we waited for up to an hour while prints developed. Once the prints develop they are ready for a second, third, fourth or maybe even a fith layer of gum bichromate solution - each layer taking about one class session to complete... lots of patience.

Class # 6

Rob and Annie Kraft, Albumenizing Paper

A wet and gray day is a wonderful day to size paper for Albumen printing, a sizing that consists primarily of egg whites... it is especially wonderful when you have students who use the left over egg yolks to make baked goods for the whole class! Thanks Rob and Annie for the muffins, lemon curd, and home made vanilla pudding with real vanilla bean. Comfort food for a cloudy photo day.

And as always there was time for printing more Cyanotypes and Van Dyke Brown prints...

Workspace, equipped with hairdryers for drying prints - not an easy task when its so rainy
