Class # 6

Rob and Annie Kraft, Albumenizing Paper

A wet and gray day is a wonderful day to size paper for Albumen printing, a sizing that consists primarily of egg whites... it is especially wonderful when you have students who use the left over egg yolks to make baked goods for the whole class! Thanks Rob and Annie for the muffins, lemon curd, and home made vanilla pudding with real vanilla bean. Comfort food for a cloudy photo day.

And as always there was time for printing more Cyanotypes and Van Dyke Brown prints...

Class #5

Caitlin Yates

Low chemistry and pouring rain is no distraction to this ambitious group of alt processors... Van Dyke Brown prints were the focus of the class with many learning the nuances of the process from sensitizing the paper to evaluating the exposure time. Alot of ground was covered in this short class and many prints were made...

Class # 4

Michael Volpicella

Today it was on to Van Dyke Brown prints and BVD's (that stands for blue van dykes). Everyone eagerly made prints anticipating how their photographs would look in this smooth brown vintage process. Many printed Blue Van Dykes - Van Dyke Brown on top of a too dark Cyanotype. A way to resurrect a print and give it a new interpretation!

Class #3

Hooray for the sun and exposing Cyanotypes outside! After all, what's more fun than creating photographs while sitting outside on a beautiful day. People are progressing well with their technique, the images continue to evolve and become wonderful unique pieces of art...

Class # 2

Washing Prints

It was a Cyanotype day! Students made enlarged digital negatives and then out into the sun to expose their prints... until it rained then inside to the UV light for more printing... then back outside when the rain stopped - a little precipitation can not hold us back.

Class # 1

Today was the first class meeting for Alternative Photographic Processes at Tunxis Community College.

Much ground was covered today, an introduction to the processes and their history, an intro on printing digital negatives and the high point of the class: creating a 9' x 9' cyanotype mural. See photos and videos below...

Tomorrow will be a cyanotype printing day, check back to see the class progress and some beautiful blue photos...
